Possibilities Newsletter - August 2024
We are excited about the growing enthusiasm in our classes and plan to keep up the momentum with our September class on Dementia and Moving to a Care Setting and our October class on Brain Health.

How to cope with very real staff shortages
All types of long-term care settings are experiencing significant staff shortages, especially in the midwest. What attributes separate exceptional care settings from the rest? How can you find them? Who can help? What can you do if you experience issues with care?

What happens when your care is denied?
Recently START received a call from Beth who had fallen and broken both femurs. Within days of landing in rehab, her insurance company denied all further physical therapy. This happens far too often. Learn how START helped Beth access the care she needed.

Thank You! We have Exceeded Our Goal
It's early on New Years Eve and I am very pleased to announce that we have exceeded the goal for our year-end campaign. We have met our $30,000 match and raised a total of $60,641 so far.

Meet Judy, START's New Nurse
Judy has a background in public health and has worked in a variety of healthcare settings, leadership, care and case management. She has experience with complex cases, like the ones we see at START. Judy is a tremendous gift to the START team and to our clients.

Exercise for Life
As START’s team of riders take part in the epic 500-mile RAGBRAI (Register‘s Great Bicycle Race Across Iowa), they exhibit an extraordinary commitment to supporting START’s mission and a dedication to a healthy lifestyle. Learn more about RAGBRAI and follow their ride through updates and photos.

Say that again?
Do you have trouble understanding what people are saying over the phone or think others seem to mumble? Do you find yourself asking people to repeat themselves or avoiding places with lots of background noise? If so, you may have a hearing problem and not realize it.

START to Join the Ride Across Iowa
START Senior Solutions will be taking part in RAGBRAI (the Des Moines Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa) as a summer fundraiser. Led by Executive Director Tracy Keibler, this will be the sixth time START’s team has made the approximately 500 mile ride. Learn more about the ride and donate by reading our latest blog post.
